Last week I wasn’t showing up anywhere in search for headshots, boohoo. Yesterday I was number three in just one week! I wasn’t really thinking about optimizing for headshots because I’m basically a model shooter. The film industry has come to town so headshots are on my radar more. There are quite a few industries out there that need headshots if you really think about it.
The image above is from a series of headshots for Detroit’s WWJ-TV Channel 62. It was priced as a commercial shoot so it was a nice two day shoot. The first day was formals the second day were environmentals. They wanted all the enviromentals horizonal with bright backgrounds out of focus from around the station. I shot all the on camera talent and the images were for their advertising print campaign. I provided all the retouching.
I got the job as a referral from a model I’ve tested (tfp) with in the past. Thank you so much Sheri.

would you share with me what the lighting setup for these 2 shots were, I have something similar coming up and love what you did. Thank you…I am a huge fan and read you every day!
For paying clients I would never show the before….but for testing I would
but i have to say these look unbelievably close to the originals.
You’re posts are always informative. Love the shots.
I know you like to keep retouching of headshots to a minimum, but what level of retouching was done for these two examples. I think that would be a great post in itself.
