Secret Sauce Formulas

Detroit Michigan Comp Card Photographers Mary DuPrie

I’m tired tired tired again.  A good tired.  I assisted all day today, got up at 5:15, yuk.  I am not a morning person.

Assisting?  Again?  Well, yes.  If someone asks me to assist, I say yes.  Do I get paid, sometimes, sometimes not.  At least not with cold hard cash.  You get paid in other ways though.  Secret sauce formulas, computer help, SEO help, lunch, dinner, donuts and coffee at Tim Hortons…

How did he get the job?  Google…have I ever thought I could shoot it better than the shooter, nope.

With the knowledge I learn I might accept a job that comes my way that I might other wise pass on.  I tend to turn down jobs that I don’t feel qualified for.  I don’t take it on the clients dime if I’m not totally comfortable.  I’m not a fake it till you make it kind a girl.  Sometimes I wish I were but I don’t want the job to bite me in the ass.

On another note it seems that Blurb is pulling ahead in my poll as far as book publishing goes.  I’m going to take a serious look at it tomorrow.  One question, are there any books that open flat or is that only in an album?

Thanks for all the help.  My favorite line was “even my aunt can do it”.  I take it she’s smarter than a caveman…

I’m watching “Flipping Out” while I’m writing this.  It makes me feel normal.  Lot’s of TV makes me feel normal these days…how bout those Housewives!

Adoramapix offers lay flat books. Though I’m not crazy with their web based software, the quality of the books are excellent.

I found this write up on photo books very helpful. It’s long but very detailed and reviews 12 different photo book printing services.

I’m not sure if Blurb offers lay-flat books, but most labs do. They’re the slightly more expensive versions of the standard books–the paper quality is sometimes better (depends on the lab), and they lay flat because the pages are sort of “hinged”. Mpix doesn’t have them (they’re consumer-oriented, adn thus, although printed at the same locations as MpixPro and Millers, don’t offer as many products), but MpixPro and Millers do. (Again–as would just about any professional lab. :))

To compare prices, at MpixPro, the 10 page doublesided (20 pages total) hard cover 8×8 book is $50…and a layflat hard cover, same size, would be $66.40…and a soft cover, non layflat, at 8.5 x 8.5, same number of pages, would be $20.

(Another great offering is accordion books–especially the minis. A girl might buy a larger book with her boudoir/glamour session for a gift for a significant other…and then a mini-accordion book for his wallet… ;))
