I Must Love Blue

Michigan Modeling Photography by Mary DuPrie

Because I seem to shoot a lot of it!

I haven’t shot Lindsey in forever, at least two years.  Lindsey is one of the best commercial models working in Detroit.  She needs absolutely no coercing to give me different looks.  I love it when a model looks off camera on their own accord with tons of variety.  It’s kinda funny I’m posting a straight on shot though.

I wanted to use this background to see how it looks for more than a headshot.  I need to have some simple body looks I can do for quick testing.  I’ve sampled her dress color and brushed it over the background in “color” mode to be more cohesive.

I wanted the image to be somewhat door like so I haven’t used any hair or rim lights.  In model photography “proper” lighting is not always necessary.  It’s all about Lindsey’s great face.

The lighting set up is two large strip soft boxes.  The main light on the right was gridded with no baffle or diffusion.  The fill on the left was gridded, I couldn’t find the baffle or diffusion so I just clipped on some extra sail cloth I had hanging around.  I had a gridded light on the background.  (All the lights were gridded even though they’re out in the image)

Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.

Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Blue is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness. In heraldry, blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity.

I find myself being surrounded by a lot of blue most of the time. Always looking forward to seeing and learning more.
