Hang It Up

Detroit Michigan Lingerie Photography by Mary DuPrie

Lorena was nice enough to test with my glamour setup today.  I’m still working on the set, lighting and especially the posing.  I made this set up on the spot and I have to say I really like it.  I’m trying to make my sets look like hotel rooms without leaving the studio. I’m still looking for mirrors and check Home Goods as often as I can.

I did end up using my vagabonds on set so I could wheel around the lights easily… it actually worked out great.

I am definitely seeing having some sort of “pose book” would help me as well as the model.  Which poses to start with first and how to shoot around problem areas.  Lorena is actually a good model to test with because she’s only 5’4″ and isn’t a boney fashion model.  I’m going to fill up a nice portfolio with sample images to work off of.

The chandelier on the left was a $10 sale piece I picked up in Las Vegas  years ago.  They collapse and fit into a small box.  I bought everyone they had.  They are so cheap they fall apart if you breathe on them.

She’s facing my east facing windows and I have a large gridded strip placed horizontally for a rim light, camera right.   85 1.2 shot at 2.8 160 200 iso

This is the background for the image above.  The chaise lounge set wasn’t used but I had black leather chair instead.  The gold panels are tufted fabric taped to Styrofoam panels.  I made them about three years ago and have never shot them.  They turned out better than I thought they would and I will definitely use them again.  The black shutters are just leaning against the panels.  The set looks horrible in person but shot great.  The strip light spilled onto the background as well as lighting Lorena.

The studio has water pipes running along the ceiling so I’ve improvised a system of hooks and bars to hang things.   I have to say I use the system all the time.  It’s a forest of chandeliers!

I too am awed by your ingenuity and awesomeness ! I hate looking at your studio – I’m so jealous 🙂 The set looks fabulous and very much like a luxury hotel room in the image. The gold panels and chandaliers really work well.
I’m going to have to come visit one day !!
