Model Photography Workshops by Mary DuPrie
Today was another great workshop day. I work a bit differently at my workshops in that I ask people what they want to work on. Today I was asked for flair. I tend to like it right in the crook of the shoulder and that’s where I start. Take off the lens hood for added effect.
Andi was our model today and she’s great. She did her own hair and makeup and does a great job. On Saturdays I have an inexperienced model come and they do their own hair and makeup. I feel it’s more true to life to what you might expect. Well, Andi is quickly modeling herself out of the “inexperienced” department quickly. Andi has a great hairline with her hair pulled back. Dress Salvation Army $10. Love the boots Andi.
Main light is an Alien Bee ring light, which for a small light is somehow soft with pop. The back light is bare bulb. There’s another background light that is barely visible. The spiderlite is for focusing.

I wanna smoke machine too ! Love the shot – adore the light –
Beautiful work Mary, thanks for sharing.
Love the smoke, what smoke machine are you using?
Gorgeous shot.
The things you can do with the ABR ring flash are ridiculous. Mini-beauty dish like you’re using it here, giant soft box with the ring boxes they sell, on camera ring, fantastic for overpowering daylight when barebulbed. If I could only use one light for the rest of my life, that would easily be the one.
I’m entirely jealous of your smoke machine.
