Keeping Track

Metro Detroit Photographers Mary DuPrie

It seems that lot’s of people are following through with their New Years resolution and booking a photo shoot.  Yeah.  I definitely see my emails and calls are way up.  My booking percentage is way up too.  My new price lists, animoto videos and accepting charge cards over the phone (versus paypal) are a great help.

I think my average is about 3 or 4 new inquires every day from search alone.  I don’t have a retail location so I think that’s a pretty good average.  I’ve basically stopped testing (shooting) and have spent my time right here on my computer.  There comes a time when more shooting will not ultimately make you any more money… it’s all the other crap you have to do.

MARKETING… there I said it, uggh

I wish someone would come up with a new name to replace the word marketing.  That being said maybe it should be me.  I’m practicing being pro-active versus reactive, so I’m going to call it humm… I don’t know.  Perhaps we can all pitch it and come up with a fun new name.

“Razzle Dazzle”

or in the words of Snoop Dog… Shizzazzle

I don’t really know how to do it, I just know great marketing when I see’s it… and I drool when I see others with it.

Everyone says business is horrible, but I now see (which I always knew btw) that business is not horrible for people with the total package and that means Shizzazzle.  I’m still lacking a great letter head, thank you cards, invoices, disc packaging… well you get the idea.  (Thank you cards and custom stamps are next on my list)

I’m going to keep track of all my emails and calls this week to see where and how people find me… should be interesting.  I’ll report back in one week with all the statistics.

I got me a bit of Shizzazzle and now I got me some business!

Hi Mary,
Once again you are right on target! To be a successful photographer you need good images and great marketing. This is especially true in today’s market! You are an inspiration to get me revved up and off my ass to ramp up my marketing. As artists we always seem to put our marketing on a back burner and concentrate on our art. To be successful this does not work.
All the best,
Rick
