I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with the list information I’ve been gathering on local Detroit area modeling agencies. Perhaps just keep it for clients who booked me for a shoot.

I decided to go hog wild and list all the info I could find on the agencies. I even thought of selling the info (along with other industry info) as an E-book. Well I was doing research for my ebook, Googling all kinds of phrases, and a search uncovered an interesting website

I Googled… “Detroit modeling agencies list” and the following below showed up

It certainly looks like they’re offering a list!

I had my suspicions to who was behind it… and they have been confirmed. I did not see any download links, pdf’s or a list, instead you had to fill out a form… hummmm. Yep the very next day One Source Talent started calling me, another low pretending the web site has a list… they ain’t got no list.

The salesperson today pleaded ignorance and said it must be someone else and I was mistaken. Either it’s their website or the website is selling my information. I vote that it’s their website. In three days they have called approximately ten times. (I consider myself lucky when an agency booker calls me back!)

A screen grab of the website. I would think if someone put all this work into a website to offer free info they would want their name attached. I searched and searched and couldn’t find any info on “who” owns this website.

I promise I won’t call you either! You can call me if you like…

These nine agencies will not be calling you or charging you a fee. As a matter of fact it is most likely that you will never hear from them and they won’t be signing you. The average acceptance rate is at most 5%. I myself have a hard time speaking with a “booker” at the agencies and they know me! Yes, they are called bookers… not Salespeople. Agencies don’t advertise on the net because they don’t have to. Go to their website and follow the prompts on how to submit as new talent.

If you would like professional images to submit, good idea… but not mandatory, then give me a shout. My website has a 2 look agency submission package that is exactly what an agency would “like”. The proper headshot and a body shot. You don’t need a comp card nor a portfolio, at least not at this stage of the game.

So here you go. We work hard for our money and unfortunately there will always be people that are trying to present themselves as something they’re not.

Do not sign up for On-Line “agencies” or agencies that ask you for $500 up front and $39.95 a month to be on their website. If you are a smaller agency and would like to be listed here please send me your info. If you charge any fees or you have an in-house photographer please don’t bother. Feeding work to only one photographer would also be a reason not to be on the list.
