I normally have an order when I shoot comp cards for the day.  Today I wanted to shoot on the east side of the building but unfortunately the sun had already gone around to the south side and there were no cool floor patterns to be had.

I started walking around the building and ran into this spot.  For the last 23 years it’s been leased  but the tenant moved out and it was finally cleaned out.  I normally don’t shoot much  “urban” but when you have a model with Alli’s height of 5′ 10″  they can make anything look good.

This was Alli’s very first shoot and the first look of the day.  I have never done a bathing suit setup as the first look because it’s just way too hard for the model to pull off.  My normal workflow would be Headshot, 3/4, full body and then if on the menu a bathing suit shot.

I find that full body shot in the studio is much harder than shooting full body on location.   Locations solve so many issues for full body shots.  My problem is I become too lazy to leave the comfort of my studio.  Being in a large building I have the option of shooting in my studio or vacant spaces as tenants move out.  My goal is to get “out” and shoot.

I love the pattern the window frames and trees make on the floor and the model stays nice and cozy inside with 30 degree temps outside.

Normally standing in profile is not very flattering even for thin models but Alli just happen to strike this pose and lean back just right to pull it off.  Alli mentioned that she watched all my videos before the shoot and they helped quite a bit.  Full length is hard but being in a bathing suit in public is over the top for a new model… it’s nice when you get a great shot early in the shoot.  Silver reflector used for fill, olive oil on the skin for a bit of sheen.
