Ouch

Before and After of Lauren taken at my November 2009 workshop

While talking with a fellow photographer today we compared how much weight we both had gained because of photography.  ouch!  Or maybe I should say because of my computer.  The list of what I do on my computer would be so long it would be crazy to try and list it all, but using and learning Photoshop would be at the top of that list.

Years ago (before I was full a full time pro) you would drop off your film and you were basically done.  The pro members of this club were few and far between.

I use to drop off my film and imagine the fabulous images I would pick up the next day.  The images never matched my imagination.  bummer.  I’m so glad digital came along, it’s allowed me to become a better photographer but fatter.

Sometimes I would have to “save” my images in Photoshop, my proofs were just so so looking.  I’m happy to say things have improved and my proofs look pretty good right out of camera.  This is when I finally felt like a pro photographer.  When my proofs didn’t look great I knew I was still fakin it.  My goal was always great proofs.

I love Photoshop and I’m glad I started on that bandwagon when I did, but now I’m paying the price.

Would love a deeper insight into your workflow and post-processing Mary. Perhaps something for future blog articles?
