Foreground Sparkle

I haven’t shot anything lately that I would use my new Knoll Lighting Factory effect on, so I went digging and found this shot of Allison.  I thought the image could use a bit of pop.  The background already had a bit of sparkle, I just wanted to add something in the foreground.  I used KLF’s Barlow filter effect.

There doesn’t seem to be much info on KLF and the more I use it I find a few things I don’t like about it.  There is no easy undo (reset), a before and after preview or blur, at least that I can see.  I also want to be able to put the center of effects where I want them.  Anyone out there adept at this program?

I liked the before image just fine… just needed an excuse to play around.

Turn your Photoshop layer into a smart object before you apply KLF. That way the filter will be applied as a smart filter that you can turn on and off or you can go back in and make adjustments.

Mary,
I played with this filter a long time ago (most likely an older version also). For non-destructive editing duplicate your image (Ctrl-J), open the filter interface and select the effect you want to apply. Move your mouse over the image and left click to move the effect around, when the effect is where you want it release the left button and apply the filter. Now back in Photoshop before you do anything else you can fade the effect if you want to back off on it some (Shift-Ctrl-f)
Another thing you can try is make a new layer over the top of your image and fill it with 50% gray and change the blend mode to overlay. Now run your filter on this layer. Back in PS you can reposition this layer where you want it. Depending on the filter effect you may have to mask out some edges after you move it.
If you have any questions, feel free to give me call.
