Michigan Portfolio Photographers

Michigan Portfolio Photographers Mary DuPrie

So my new struggle is Social Media… I’m not even sure I like the name.  A kind reader suggested I look into paying for Facebook ads.  I feel like a total dolt but I’ve never even seen ads on my Facebook page.  I mentioned this to a fellow photographer and he said they are on the right side.  ???

I’ve looked and looked and I don’t have any ads, so I’m really confused.  I have to say for me at this time I wouldn’t pay for ads but I would still like to know where they are?

I had an interesting call tonight at 11:30pm.  It was actually someone calling from Germany wanting to hire me for one on one posing and image help.  Going through his images and helping his girlfriend/model with her posing.

Posing and free form modeling is so much more difficult than it appears.   Once you start shooting models it becomes obvious how big a role the photographer has.  What to say and how you say it is crazy hard!

Last week I started consulting with a photographer from Haiti who now resides in Florida, so that’s  been interesting.  He photographed model headshots for a local agency and they were rejected… hummm.  I did agree with the agency and I’ve been going over  his latest attempts. Sometimes it’s hard to understand what an agency is looking for versus a portrait client.

The internet allows us to reach out so easily for help and consultations.  I know I harp on Skype but it’s just so darn useful.

Hey Mary,

Can you tell us a bit about this shot? I don’t think I have seen this one before; is that a wedding dress that she is wearing? I apologize if you have commented on it before.

Best regards,

Hi Matt
yes she is wearing a wedding dress. the zipper in the back was broken so i just had her sit down with it open. i shot this alone with the model, no hair or makeup person. somehow the candles weren’t working out so i had the idea of just bunching them together and holding them… i was going for a phantom of the opera look i guess
She is sitting on the floor with a mirror behind her. the mirror is from neiman marcus discount store. (HomeGoods around here is by far the best place to buy mirrors cheap) the dress is from salvation army, the gold chair was a dumpster dive, i just saw the legs poking out of the dumpster driving 50mph down the road… good eye mary. they are the kind of chairs you rent at weddings so it was perfect. tossed some faded silk roses into the set. i can’t remember the lighting, the image is about 4 years old. i wish she had some more light in her eyes though.
